MISS CONGENIALITY is a comedy about a female FBI agent who is persuaded to go undercover at the Miss United States of America beauty pageant in order to prevent a terrorist bombing. It is rated 12 for moderate violence and sex references.

The violence is mostly of the comic, slapstick variety. As her talent demonstration for the beauty pageant finals the FBI agent, Gracie, offers some self-defence pointers for women. She uses a man to demonstrate the vulnerable areas of the male body – the solar plexus, instep, nose and groin – and inflicts some fairly hefty blows, including a heel of the hand punch to the nose. One of the considerations in age classifying the film was the possibility of these potentially dangerous moves being imitated by younger viewers. There is also some comic gun threat and at one point a woman has a knife briefly held to her throat.

Moderate sex references include undetailed comments about virginity, sexual preference, people having sex, faking orgasms etc and a passing reference to the disqualification of the original Miss New Jersey for starring in a porn film. There is also innuendo about penis size.

No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
