MILK is a biographical drama about the life of an openly gay councillor in 1970s San Francisco.

There are over ten uses of strong language ('f**k'), as well as uses of moderate bad language such as 'prick'.

There are strong references which include references to anal and oral sex. There is also a scene of moderate sex when it is implied that a man begins to perform fellatio on his partner.

There is a scene of moderate violence when a man is repeatedly shot with blood visible upon impact.

There is a scene of drug use in which a man smokes marijuana.

There are uses of discriminatory language ('faggot', 'puff') and discriminatory remarks made against gay characters, but these views are all negatively presented.

There are brief instances of natural male buttock and female breast nudity.
