MAGIC MIKE is a comedy drama about a veteran male stripper who takes a younger man under his wing and teaches him about the business. The film was classified '15' for strong language, sex references, nudity and drug use.

The film contains over one hundred uses of strong language. The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, 'fuck')'.

The film features a number of sequences in which men, either as individuals or in a group, perform choreographed strip routines in clubs or at private parties. The performers remove their clothing to reveal bare torsos and buttocks but their genitals are always covered by thongs and pouches. During these routines, the male strippers go into the audience and move suggestively on women's laps. They also bring women up on stage where they become part of the routines, with sexual activity being mimed in a deliberately exaggerated manner. The Guidelines at '15' state 'Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour'. There are also some strong verbal references to sexual behaviour.

Although the stripping scenes do not feature any strong nudity, there is some sight of topless women in a sexual context. There is also a comic sequence in which a performer in a dressing room attempts to use a vacuum pump to increase the size of his penis. Although there is brief sight of the penis in the pump, there is little clear detail and the activity is simply part of the performer's preparations before the stage show. He does not obtain any sexual gratification from the pump and the image is not directly associated with any sexual activity. The Guidelines at '15' state 'Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail'.

The film also contains scenes of soft drug use, as well as the use and dealing of drugs such as Ecstasy, which are portrayed as having wholly negative consequences for the characters involved. The Guidelines at '15' state 'Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse'.
