HUNGER is a dramatisation of the actual events in the Maze prison in Northern Ireland during 'the Troubles' of recent times.

There are violent confrontations as prisoners are beaten by officers, resulting in bloody injury. Prisoners smear their cell walls with human waste.

A man starves himself to death and there is a realistic depiction of the physical consequences of this, such as the passing of blood and his body being covered in numerous sores and ulcers.
