A HIDDEN LIFE is a drama following the consequences of conscientious objection, during WWII, for an Austrian farmer and his family.

Violence

Guards beat prisoners with truncheons, punches and kicks. It is implied that they shoot a prisoner and that others are executed by beheading.

Threat and horror

Frightened inmates await their turns to be executed. A recusant woman and her daughters are verbally abused by villagers.

There are discriminatory references, as well as images of real dead bodies in newsreel footage. Characters smoke cigarettes.
