HEATHERS is a black comedy in which two high school students begin murdering their classmates.

There is use of strong language ('f**k') as well as milder terms including 'prick', 'dickhead' and 'shit'. Homophobic language ('fag') also occurs, but it is not condoned by the work as a whole.

References are made to oral sex, masturbation, and intercourse, including a scene of implied fellatio.

A series of murders are disguised as suicides, leading to the issue being discussed among the local community. The narrative satirises the response of the teachers and how the issue is misinterpreted by some students, inspiring one girl to attempt to take her own life. In one scene a young man kills himself, but this occurs off-screen. The work as a whole does not condone or glamorise suicide.

There are scenes of violence, including shootings resulting in some brief bloody detail and a woman being tricked into drinking bleach. In the background of one scene a young woman struggles as a man falls on her, implying that he may be forcing himself on her. However, no further detail is shown.

Infrequent scenes of drug misuse include marijuana smoking.
