Note: The following text may contain spoilers

AN EDUCATION is a drama, set in 1960s Britain, and which concerns a 17 year old school student's choice between trying to gain a place at Oxford or take up with the wealthy older man who is pursuing her.

Sex

There are references to losing one's virginity, as well as sex scenes which are discreetly filmed and lack strong detail.

The film also contains mild bad language (for example, 'bastard', 'bloody', 'hell' and a non-sexual use of 'bugger'), and a couple of uses of terms such as "Negros" and "coloured people". However, the discriminatory terms are not condoned by the film as a whole, and instead illustrate the language and attitudes that prevailed at the time.

There are also a number of scenes showing people, including schoolgirls, smoking cigarettes, and which reflect the time period in which the film is set.
