COUP 53 is a documentary concerning the 1953 coup in Iran that overthrew Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh.

Disturbing images

There are images of real dead bodies, including one showing a dead man with blood running from his head and another showing the victims of a firing squad. Some images are accompanied by references to the victims having been tortured.

Violence

There are scenes in which people are shot, accompanied by bloodspurts, and blood in the aftermath of violence.

The film contains racist terms in scenes in which interviewees claim that expatriates viewed the Iranian people as "wogs". The work as a whole does not condone racism or discrimination. There is also mild bad language ('son of a bitch', 'pissed', 'bastard', 'screwed', 'God', 'damn'), references to torture and assassination, and a scene in which an interviewee claims that a man had syphilis.
