CARMILLA is a period horror drama in which a girl's life is thrown into confusion when a mysterious stranger arrives at her house.

Injury detail

There are strong gory images in two 'dream sequences' in which a woman imagines herself disembowelling a man, and then being part of a macabre magic act in which the magician saws through her abdomen, with her dress becoming heavily bloodstained. In another scene, a character is battered offscreen with a mallet; the aftermath of the attack shows the assailant splattered with the victim's blood. There are also scenes in which 'blood rituals' are performed with needles pricking fingers and the blood being smeared around mouths.

There is moderate threat throughout, embedded in the dark, ominous tone of the film. There are scenes featuring moderate sex and nudity, including one in which a couple engage in sexual activity while fully clothed, with the man thrusting into the woman. There are also scenes in which characters take part in a breath play game and a young woman holds her hand in a candle flame.
