BOYS STATE is a documentary in which a thousand teenage boys from Texas attend a summer leadership programme intended to build a representative government from the ground up.

Language

There is infrequent strong language ('f**k'), as well as milder terms ('dick', 'shit', 'pissed', 'ass', 'hell', 'damn', 'Christ').

Sex

One of the teenage boys refers to "dick-measuring" and makes references to measuring himself whilst delivering a speech, accompanied by suggestive behaviour.

Theme

The film contains references to online bullying, and these include scenes in which an online account displays derogatory material. Some of these references are claimed to be racially motivated. However, the work as a whole does not condone racism.

There are also brief references to rape, abortion, and school shootings.
