RUSH is a biographical drama about the rivalry between Britain's James Hunt and the Austrian Niki Lauda during Formula 1 motor racing in the 1970s.

Language

The film contains frequent strong language ('f**k'), as well as a single non-aggressive and disguised use of very strong language ('c**t').

Sex

There are two sex scenes, one of which takes place in the toilet of a plane. Although neither scene contains graphic detail, they do provide an impression of sexual mechanics and show some brief nudity, which gives them a strong tone.

Injury detail

The film contains images of bloody injuries in the context of motor racing accidents, some of which resulted in the deaths of drivers. These include sight of a driver's shattered leg and the severe burn injuries suffered by Lauda in a crash during the 1976 German Grand Prix. The details of these injuries are not dwelt upon other than to highlight the dangers of the sport, and in Lauda's case to illustrate the physically debilitating extremes from which he had to return to make his comeback to motor racing within a matter of weeks.

The film contains verbal and visual references to drug use, showing Hunt's reckless lifestyle, which included alcohol consumption and which is documented as contributing to his early death. The film also features scenes of smoking, as well as shots of cars and drivers' clothing carrying the logos of tobacco companies that sponsored racing teams. Both the smoking and the tobacco sponsorship, which was allowed at the time, are not overtly glamorised but are presented as being aspects of a particular period.
