RESISTANCE 3 is the latest in the series of first person shooter games in which players take on the role of a resistance fighter battling against invading alien forces. It was classified '18' for strong bloody violence. The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'. However, there are a number of game play elements that either encourage the player to dwell on the infliction of injury or contain very strong gory images. For example, having killed enemy aliens, players may then shoot their heads off as they lie on the ground. The game also contains a bonus feature called 'Bloody Mess', in which targeted enemies can be blown apart in a gory explosion of body parts.
