DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS is a fantasy role-playing game for the PC.

The game was classified ‘18’ for strong bloody violence. This includes the sight of bloody violence during numerous battles, and ‘cut scenes’ which show characters slashing enemies in the face, driving knives into their heads and so on. These attacks are accompanied by sight of spurting blood. If the player follows a certain story path they may also kill innocent characters in cold blood. At ‘15’, the BBFC’s Guidelines state that ‘violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.’ In the case of DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS, it was felt that the violence shown did indeed dwell on the infliction of pain and injury as detailed above, thus leading to the 18 certificate.

The game also includes some moderate sex references, including a short ‘cut scene’ in which villainous soldiers appear to be prepared to rape a dead woman as she's 'still warm', and slurs directed towards women such as calling them “whores”. There are also sex scenes that depict characters in their underwear as they kiss.
