DEADLY PREMONITION is a survival/horror game for the Xbox 360 console in which an FBI agent arrives in a small town to investigate a set of mysterious serial killings. The game was classified '15' for strong violence and moderate horror.
The strong violence in the gameplay is conducted by the player with various weapons, including guns, sticks, axes, swords and flamethrowers, used on hordes of enemies which are presented as fantastical zombie-like creatures. Although the impact of the violence accumulates over the course of the game, the resulting injury detail is unrealistic in appearance, with blood spurts from the zombies being of a purple colour and no dismemberment possible. When the zombies are shot or struck they only fall to the ground and their bodies disappear quickly from the game environments, allowing no opportunity for post-mortem damage. Although combat and killings form a large part of the gameplay, there are also opportunities to avoid confrontation by dodging enemies. The violence is further balanced by significant puzzle-solving elements within the game. Images of violence and injury in the non-interactive parts of the game are more realistic in their presentation but there is no undue dwelling on gory detail and the overall treatment of the violence meets with the allowance of the BBFC's Guidelines at '15' which state that 'violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'.
Moderate horror is present in the game's serial killer theme, with references to gruesome killings and images of some of the victims in crime scene photographs but there is, once again, no undue dwelling on the more graphic detail.
The game also contains mild language such as 'God', 'hell', 'crap' and 'skanky' as well as infrequent moderate sex references.
