We classify linear Virtual Reality (VR) video and experiences for distribution on physical media under the Video Recordings Act 1984 (VRA) and via digital distribution under our digital video age rating scheme.
When do I need to get an age rating for my work?
Video content distributed on physical media requires a BBFC age rating under the Video Recordings Act 1984. Please see our video age ratings page for information on how to submit. Our Video-on-Demand service also allows content owners, rights holders, distributors and platforms access to cost-effective digital age ratings for use on Video On Demand (including sVOD) platforms, Electronic Sell Through and digital rental. You can find more information on our digital video ratings page for more information. Theatrical VR content may also require a classification, please contact us for advice on this.
What can/can't I submit?
We receive content via a variety of platforms. Please contact us for any enquiries regarding this.
In order to submit a work please make an entry on our extranet service.
If you do not have an account please complete our Customer Account Request form.
How much does it cost?
Please see our Fee Tariff for a full list of costs. Costs will vary due to distribution method.
Is there anything else I need to consider?
We can give you advice as to what rating an unfinished work may receive. Full details can be found here.
If you are making your first submission for a VRA age rating you will be entered into the Video Packaging Review Committee scheme. This is a voluntary industry scheme that regulates the sleeves of packaged media.
