WORLD WAR Z is an action horror drama about a man's attempts to stop a zombie pandemic that is sweeping the world. This re-edited and extended version of the film is rated 15 for sustained threat, strong violence and bloody injury detail.
There is sustained threat throughout the film, with swathes of fast-moving zombies attacking from the very beginning. Zombies fly at humans and attack, almost immediately transforming those bitten into fellow zombies, with some close-ups on their glassy eyes and on black veins spreading across their faces. Most of the threat occurs in large-scale set-pieces, with hordes and hordes of swarming zombies overrunning streets and vehicles, but there are some more close-up attacks in which individual humans are targeted and transformed. At one point, the zombie infection spreads through an airborne plane, when a zombie emerges from a cupboard. There is panic aboard, as the passengers rapidly transform and start to attack each other. Another strong scene takes place in a laboratory, when the film's heroes attempt to sneak past a group of zombies. They make a noise and the zombies attack, chasing after them, snarling.
In one scene of violence the main character hacks a female soldier's hand off in order to stop the zombie disease spreading through her body and infecting her. While the severing of the hand is not shown, there are shots of the stump pumping a large amount of blood. In another scene, the main character attacks a zombie with a crowbar, bringing the weapon down onto its body with some heavy blows. The crowbar sticks in the creature's body and the man struggles to release it. When he does another zombie is attacked and its head is stamped on with dark zombie blood splattering up.
The film also contains some moderate bad language, including uses of 'bitch' and 'prick'.
