WHAT IF is a romantic drama, set in Toronto, in which a young man becomes attracted to a young woman who is already in a relationship.

Sex

There are frequent crude sex references, including to masturbation, oral sex and sexually transmitted infections.

There is a scene in which an adult character watches a horror film on TV with his young nephew; the footage we see from the film includes brief sight of a man's hands being cut off by an alien creature. However, the impact of the gory images is significantly reduced by the comedy of the situation, as the man tries to shield the boy from the gore, as well as by the fact they are clearly watching a film.

There is also some buttock nudity, as two characters go swimming at night on the beach, and infrequent strong language ('f**k').
