WE ARE MONSTER is a UK drama, based on a true story, in which a racist convict murders his Asian cellmate.
- Language
There are infrequent uses of very strong language ('c**t'), many of which occur when the racist convict talks to himself. There is also frequent strong language ('f**k'), as well as multiple uses of racist language throughout.
- Violence
In one scene, the convict beats his cellmate to death. Blood sprays onto the assailant's shirt; however, there is no strong injury detail.
There are also visual and verbal references to self-harming. These include a scene in which two male prisoners cut their wrists, with brief injury detail. This is not a genuine suicide attempt, however, as the prisoners are merely attempting to get removed from prison.
In one scene, a male prisoner has a sexual conversation with a woman over the phone, whilst another man apparently masturbates.
There are also some scenes in which men smoke cannabis.

The company was advised the film was likely to be classified 18 but that their preferred 15 could be achieved by reducing the number of uses of very strong language. When the film was submitted for formal classification, the number of uses of very strong language had been reduced and it was classified 15.
