VENUS IN FUR is a subtitled French drama based on a stage play. An actress and a director read parts from the director's play, based on the Leopold von Sacher-Masoch novella.
There is infrequent use of very strong language ('c**t'), both spoken by a woman and neither delivered with any aggression. There is also use of strong language ('f**k'). Additional bad language includes 'bitch', 'shit', 'crap' and 'asshole'.
Several references to "S&M porn" in relation to the novella on which the film, and the play within the film, is based. There are suggestions of characters enjoying sadomasochistic activities, asking to be humiliated and degraded. There is also a sequence in which a character talks about being whipped as a boy, in the context of being punished, with the adult character reflecting on the event, considering that this led to his adult interest in being dominated.
