VEERAM is a subtitled Tamil language action comedy romance. A couple fall in love but her pacifist father will only give his consent to their marriage if his future son-in-law agrees to never again resort to violence. It is rated 12A for moderate violence and innuendo.
There is moderate violence throughout. The fighting is mostly martial arts style and includes crunchy punches, kicks and throws. Blood is occasionally seen on characters' faces, but little further injury detail is shown. There is also undetailed use of machetes, hockey sticks and other similar improvised weapons. In one scene a rope noose is placed over a man's head and he is briefly hoisted into the air.
Mild and moderate innuendo, includes one scene in which a man is observed bathing in a large trough of water. Shortly after, a woman emerges from beneath the water between his legs. She is fully clothed but sexual activity is implied. In another scene, five men on a bed comically fight beneath a white sheet. An observer, noticing the unseen struggle beneath the sheet, wrongly suspects, as he describes it, 'hanky panky'.
The mild language in VEERAM includes subtitled uses of the terms 'crapping', 'pissed', 'screwed' and 'shit'.
There is a scene of cigarette smoking and, in another scene, a contented man, after consuming a meal, says, "All I need is some betel leaf."
No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
The distributor chose to cut scenes of strong violence (a blood spurt from a cut throat, blood dripping from a man suspended upside down, a heaving beating and the bloody tip of a spear emerging from a man's chest) in order to achieve a 12A rating. Cuts made in line with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut 15 was available.
