TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL

TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL is a comedy horror about a group of college students holidaying in the West Virginia backwoods. Their encounter with two local men leads to a series of misunderstandings that have deadly consequences. The film was classified '15' for strong comic violence, gore and language.

The film is a knowing pastiche of the 'slasher' horror genre. It includes a number of scenes of strong violence in which characters die in various gory ways, for example by being impaled on sharpened poles, falling into a wood-chipping machine, or being shot, However, a comic tone runs throughout the film, not least in the manner in which most of the deaths and injuries are portrayed as complete accidents that arise from an escalating series of misunderstandings. The gory details of the accidents and their aftermath are strong, but the special effects have a deliberately cheap appearance and are used in a consciously 'over-the-top' manner that is in keeping with the film's comic tone. This serves to diminish the impact of the violence and gore, as does the lack of any sense of sadism. The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable'.

The film also contains strong language and is therefore appropriately classified at '15' where the Guidelines state 'There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, 'fuck')'
