THE TROLL HUNTER is a subtitled Norwegian language film about a group of students who follow a hunter on a quest to catch and kill Trolls in the remote forests of Norway. The film was classified '15' for sequences of sustained intense threat.

The film is presented as a mock documentary with all the scenes shown through the lens of a hand-held camera. This lends the film a sense of heightened realism which adds to the overall feeling of threat and menace. The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained'. There are a number of sequences in which the human characters flee in terror from the Trolls. At first the Trolls are unseen, which raises the level of tension and psychological threat, while the subsequent sight of the terrifying creatures causes sheer panic amongst those being chased. In one scene, the cameraman is caught and attacked by a Troll. Although the victim is never seen, the camera shows that he is being bashed repeatedly against the roof of a cave until the camera is left lying on the floor. The intensity and frequency of these scenes exceeds the terms of the '12A'/'12' Guidelines, meaning the film is more appropriately classified at '15' where the Guidelines state 'Strong threat and menace are permitted'.
