TOTAL RECALL is a remake of the 1990 sci-fi film about a man who discovers that his memories have been implanted to hide his real identity as a spy. It was classified '12A' for moderate violence, brief nudity and one use of strong language.
Much of the violence is fantastical in nature, including battles and gun fights with robots as well as human beings. There is little sight of blood or injury detail, although there are some heavy impacts. In one scene, a man has to defend himself against a knife attack from a villain, ultimately using the attacker's own knife to kill him. There are a couple of shots of the knife being twisted into the villain but there is no emphasis on bloody detail. The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by their context'.
The brief nudity occurs when a man is accosted in the street by a prostitute. The woman attempts to entice him by exposing her chest, which has three breasts. However, the breasts are only briefly visible and the focus soon changes as the man asks her for directions. The Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet'.
There is a single use of strong language when one of the people chasing the hero learns that he is a trained spy and not the factory worker he seemed to be. The Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'The use of strong language (for example, 'fuck') must be infrequent'.
