THE THREE MUSKETEERS is an action adventure adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel about a young swordsman and three former musketeer legends who unite to stop a villainous Cardinal and a beautiful double agent from seizing France's throne. The film was classified '12A' for moderate action adventure violence.

The film contains a number of scenes of moderate violence, within a period 'swashbuckling' context. Although the violence is generally undetailed and stylised, there are some stronger moments, including a couple of headbutts delivered during fight sequences. The second headbutt occurs during a slow motion sequence in which one of the musketeers attacks and defeats a villain with an elbow to the face, a number of sword thrusts, and a head-butt. The use of slow motion and the addition of sound effects gives the scene a degree of focus that would be inappropriate at 'PG' where the BBFC's Guidelines state there may be 'Moderate violence, without detail'. In another sequence, a character saves himself from falling off a building by clutching the blade of a sword. There is some sight of blood on his hand and then brief injury detail as he plunges the sword into the villain's chest. The Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood'.

The also contains some mild bad language (eg 'shit', 'arse', 'bastard').
