TALAASH is a Hindi language crime thriller. It follows a policeman who is investigating the death of a film star whilst trying to come to terms with a personal tragedy from his past. It is rated 12A for moderate sex references and violence.
There are a number of moderate sex references, mainly relating to the underworld of prostitution in Mumbai. One of the key characters is a female prostitute who talks about her profession. For example she says "AIDS is bad for business", "He's a pimp" and "You'll always be a whore's lame son". These verbal references are accompanied by undetailed sight of brothels and brothel owners, as well as other sex workers. However, there is no nudity and no portrayal of sexual activity. There is brief sight of a DVD shop with the sign 'Hot Movies' displayed above some DVD covers showing women in bikinis.
There is some moderate violence, including a scene in which a man is shot three times in the chest by another man. Although there is no detail of bullet impacts, there is some brief sight of blood on the man's shirt as he staggers and then falls off a ledge to his death. In another scene, a sniper is seen shooting a long range target in the head, albeit without sight of blood..
The film contains some mild bad language (eg 'bloody', 'bullshit', 'shit').
No-one younger than 12 may see a '12A' film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a '12' rated video or DVD. Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the accompanying or supervising adult.
Distributor chose to remove sight of a man taking drugs, in this case 'chasing the dragon', in order to achieve a 12A classification. Cut made in line with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut 15 was available.
