STAR TREK II - THE WRATH OF KHAN (1982)

STAR TREK II - THE WRATH OF KHAN is a 1982 science fiction adventure in which the crew of the Enterprise must prevent an evil warlord from hijacking a device that holds the power of creation itself. It was originally classified A for cinema release in 1982 (broadly equivalent to the modern PG certificate) after some cuts were made. The cut version was subsequently classified PG for video release in 1987 whilst the uncut version was classified 15 for video release in 1989 (this was prior to the introduction of the 12 classification). The uncut version was eventually classified at 12 for DVD release in 2003. This cinema re-release, which also comprises the uncut version, is rated 12A for moderate horror and threat.

There is moderate horror in a number of scenes, including some sight of bloody injury detail. There are two sequences in which characters are seen in agony as small bug-like creatures burrow into and out of their ears. In one case the creature leaves a trail of blood. These sequences were reduced for the original cinema release in 1982.

There is a sense of moderate threat during various spaceship battles, during exchanges of laser-gun fire, and during scenes of hand-to-hand combat.

The film includes some mild bad language, including 'God', 'hell', 'damn' and 'son-of-a-bitch'.

No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
