ST. TRINIAN'S - THE LEGEND OF FRITTON'S GOLD (2009)

ST. TRINIAN'S - THE LEGEND OF FRITTON'S GOLD is a UK comedy film about a headmistress and her anarchic schoolgirls attempting to discover the whereabouts of some hidden gold before a villainous man and his colleagues retrieve it. It was passed 'PG' for mild language, sex references and violence.

At 'PG' the BBFC's language Guidelines state that 'Mild bad language only' is allowed. The film contains some mild language (e.g. 'piss', 'screw', 'bugger', 'bloody') that is permissible at 'PG' but which exceeds the 'infrequent very mild language' that would be permissible at 'U'.

As for sex references, the 'PG' Guidelines state that 'Sexual activity may be implied, but should be discreet and infrequent. Mild sex references and innuendo only'. There is no sexual activity shown but there are some mild sex references and innuendo. These include sight of a newspaper article pinned up on a dart board, headlined 'Member of Parliament' with a photo of apparently naked male with a large red box masking his crotch and the word "Exposed!" printed across it; a man saying 'Excuse me if I don't get up', to which a woman replies 'It won't be the first time'; a dog suggestively rubbing itself against a man's leg; and a man referring to 'a couple of athletic sleep-overs and a bout of ritual humiliation'.

The BBFC's violence Guidelines state that 'Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy)'. The film contains occasional violence, including sight of older schoolgirls punching and kicking men in the head and body; a young girl butting a man in the stomach; and a man squeezing another man's throat until he collapses to the ground. Although too strong for 'U', they are permissible at 'PG' given the lack of detail and wider comic context.

ST. TRINIAN'S - THE LEGEND OF FRITTON'S GOLD also contains some mild comic horror when a skeleton is discovered in a coffin and when one of the schoolgirls is possessed by the spirit of a dead pirate. However, these scenes are offset by the comic context. The film also contains infrequent smoking scenes when the elderly headmistress smokes a cigarette. However, these do not promote or glamorise smoking and the activity is incidental to the dialogue.
