SPOTLIGHT is a drama, based on real events, about a team of investigative journalists uncovering widespread historical child sexual abuse by priests in the Catholic Church.

Theme

In the context of a journalistic investigation into child sexual abuse, there are references to rape, molestation and violation, but usually without further details being given of such abuse. In one scene, a survivor of abuse describes how a priest groomed him with pornographic magazines and then asked for "a hand job or blow job", but he does not expand on these comments.

There is also infrequent strong language ('f**k'). Other bad language includes uses of 'shit', 'shit-hole', 'frickin', 'freakin', 'crap', 'screwed', 'pissed', 'bastards', 'son of a bitch', 'ass', 'assholes', 'balls', 'hell', 'Jesus', 'Christ' and 'damn'.
