SON OF BABYLON is an Arabic film set in Iraq in the weeks following the fall of Saddam Hussein. It follows the story of a 12 year-old boy who accompanies his grandmother on a long journey across Iraq to search for her son who never returned from the 1991 Gulf War.

Disturbing images

There are prolonged scenes focussing on mass war graves in Iraq. These include newly discovered graves as bulldozers move the earth to reveal piles of skeletons beneath, and vast areas where the skeletons have been laid out in plastic or in coffins, some identified and some anonymous, as desperate relatives search for their lost loved ones. Some details are potentially harrowing and include the suggestion of a skull being skinned. Accompanying these images are the sights and sounds of men, women and children wailing in a state of intense grief for those they have found or indeed have not found.

There are uses of mild bad language.

There is a brief scene showing two young boys selling cigarettes to adults on the streets to make money, but not smoking themselves.
