SHELL is a drama set in the Scottish Highlands about the intimate and troubled relationship between a father and his teenage daughter.

There is one strong sex scene, which takes place in a car. We see a man thrusting into a woman with his trousers half down and his buttocks partially visible. The woman's bare legs are spread either side of him. The scene is quite sustained but lacks any strong sexual detail.

The film also addresses the issue of an inappropriately close relationship between a father and his daughter. In one scene the daughter is seen hugging her topless father from behind as she seeks assurances that he loves her. In another scene she sleeps in his bed and they are seen cuddling up to each other in their nightclothes. Finally we see the father kiss his daughter passionately, to which she responds, before he stops himself and apologises for his behaviour.

There is natural breast nudity as a young woman takes a bath and scenes in which a character suffers from epileptic fits. In one scene an injured deer is put out of its misery and killed with a single stab. The stabbing is not seen on screen but is indicated by a sound effect. There is a brief after shot of blood seeping out of the deer’s neck, but no suggestion that the animal was treated cruelly.
