SHAME is a drama about a man who is addicted to casual sex. When his young sister Sissy comes to stay indefinitely at his apartment in New York, his carefully balanced life is thrown into disarray.
- Sex
The film focuses on a man's sexual life, and there are strong verbal sex references throughout. This includes a scene in which a topless woman on a pornography website encourages a woman to touch her own breasts.
Strong sex includes a fleeting montage of pornographic images as a man flicks rapidly through the pages of the magazines he keeps in his room, as well as a shadowy impression of a man performing fellatio on another unseen man in a gay club. Other sex scenes feature strong thrusting detail and nudity.
There is use of strong language ('f**k'), sometimes used in an aggressive manner or in a crude sexual sense.
There is some bloody aftermath after a suicide attempt, but there is no clear detail of injuries,
Drug misuse includes brief sight of a man snorting a line of cocaine.
A short fight shows a man being punched and kicked below screen.
