SAINTS ROW 2 is the sequel to the 2006 game SAINTS ROW and continues the story of a Los Angeles gangster fighting for control of his area of the city. It was passed ‘18’ for strong violence and criminal themes.

The BBFC Guidelines at ‘15’ state that ‘violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury’. In SAINTS ROW 2 players are able to chop into the non playable characters that populate the game world with a chain saw, resulting in large, splashy, plumes of blood. Although this is seen from distance and is without detail of actual injury, the fact that players may elect to do this repeatedly was considered sufficient reason to place the game at ‘18’. The themes that run throughout SAINTS ROW 2 also encourage players to violently rob, murder and deal drugs for profit and advancement through the games levels. These were also considered more appropriate to an adult audience.

SAINTS ROW 2 also contains frequent strong language, including multiple uses of ‘motherfucker’, and an interactive sex game in which players can hear sex noises but in which all sexual activity is hidden from view.
