SAFE HOUSE is a thriller about a young CIA agent facing betrayal at every turn as he goes on the run with a prisoner. The film was classified '15' for strong violence.

The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood'. The film contains some scenes of strong violence that exceed this allowance, including an interrogation scene featuring waterboarding and some frenzied fighting involving repeated heavy blows and the use of knives and shards of broken glass. In another scene, a man is shot in the head in cold blood, resulting in a spurt of blood and sight of a large bullet hole in the man's head. These sequences are more appropriately classified at '15' where 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'. Generally, the violence is presented in a fast-moving and rapidly-edited style that avoids undue focus on detail or injury.

The film also includes two uses of strong language and some drug references that appear during a song playing over the end credits.
