Note: The following text may contain spoilers

ROMEO & JULIET is an adaptation of Shakespeare's play about young lovers caught between their warring families.

Violence

The violence occurs during brawls between the rival factions, as well as during sword duels between individual characters. There is occasional sight of blood but the historical setting distances the violence from modern day reality.

The film also contains mild innuendo, a brief and very discreet scene of lovemaking, and a use of 'bitch' in the literal sense, when one male character says to another that his moods are like those of 'a bitch on heat'.
