ON THE ROAD is an adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel published in 1957. It follows a young writer in the late 1940s and early 1950s as he travels around the US. It is rated 15 for strong sex and drug use, and strong language.

There are a number of sex scenes, which are occasionally protracted and feature sight of sexual thrusting and breast nudity. There is a scene in which a woman fellates a man whilst he is driving and another scene in which the woman masturbates two men as they sit in a car with her. However, there is no strong sexual detail.

There are some strong verbal sex references, including crude references to genitals and oral sex.

Drug use occurs throughout the film, including the smoking of marijuana joints and the taking of Benzedrine. In one scene a man injects heroin, although little detail is shown. There are also verbal references to taking opium. Although some of the characters who use drugs are glamorous and attractive, there is no instructional detail and the drug use simply reflects the lifestyle of the characters in question, as well as the period in which the film is set. Much of the drug use is dated in look and feel, especially the misuse of Benzedrine, which is no longer available in the form shown. There is occasional sight of cigarette smoking, again reflecting the period in which the film is set.

There is occasional use of strong language ('f**k'), as well as some moderate and mild bad language, including uses of 'bitch', 'cock', 'piss', 'shit', 'son of a bitch', 'screwed', 'bastard' and 'God'.

No-one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video or DVD.
