THE REVEREND is a British horror film in which a young vicar is posted to a rural parish in South Wales, where he is transformed into a vampire. The film was classified '18' for strong bloody violence and very strong language.

The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'. Two scenes of vampire attacks feature copious blood spurts and the tearing of flesh. In spite of the fantastical context, the detail shown is too gory for '15', as is the dwelling on the infliction of pain and injury, meaning the film is more appropriately classified at '18'. It also features two uses of very strong language, both of which are aggressive and one of which is directed at a female prostitute by a male pimp. The Guidelines at '15' state that aggressive use of such language is unlikely to be acceptable.

THE REVEREND also includes frequent use of strong language, a scene of cocaine snorting, and infrequent strong verbal sex references.
