RESTLESS is a drama about a young orphaned man with a penchant for visiting strangers' funerals. He falls in love with a girl with cancer. The film was classified 'PG' for mild language and references to sex, death and suicide.

The film contains occasional mild bad language, including uses of 'shit', 'jerk' and 'bummer'. The BBFC's Guidelines at 'PG' state there may be 'Mild bad language only'.

The film also includes infrequent references to sex. In one scene, the two central characters are seen to kiss briefly. After this, they are discovered cuddled up together under a blanket. It is implied they have had sex but no detail of sexual activity is shown. Later, two men discuss what has happened, with one asking questions such as "What was it like?" and "Did it make her happy?". These discreet and undetailed visual and verbal references are permissible at 'PG' where the Guidelines state 'Sexual activity may be implied, but should be discreet and infrequent. Mild sex references and innuendo only'.

RESTLESS also contains frequent references to death and terminal illness as the two central characters discuss the loss of parents and their own mortality. However, the subject is always handled with discretion. Although some of the characters become emotionally upset, the film's tone is upbeat and positive overall. There are a couple of scenes in which dead bodies are seen in open coffins or on a morgue table. However, the bodies lack any obvious injury detail. The Guidelines state that 'Classification decisions will take into account the theme of a work, but will depend significantly on the treatment of that theme, and especially the sensitivity of its presentation'. The film handles the subject of death with significant delicacy and in a manner appropriate to the 'PG' category. The same is true of some infrequent and undetailed references to suicide. There is a subtle verbal suggestion that one character has considered suicide on a previous occasion, when he is warned to move away from the edge of a bridge. There is also a brief conversation about the Japanese practice of 'seppuku', with a reference to the use of a knife for self disembowelment. At 'PG' the Guidelines state 'Where more serious issues are featured nothing in their treatment should condone unacceptable behaviour' and that there should be 'No detail of potentially dangerous behaviour which young children are likely to copy'.
