RED DAWN is a remake of the 1984 film of the same name. In this version the US is being invaded by North Korea, leading to the formation of a resistance movement called the 'Wolverines'. It is rated 12 for moderate violence, injury detail, and one use of strong language.
There are a number of scenes of violence as the resistance use a variety of weapons and explosives to fight against the invaders. However, the violence is portrayed without much detail or sight of blood, although large numbers of North Korean soldiers are killed. In spite of the lack of blood or other detail in the fighting, there is occasional sight of injury detail after violence has taken place. In one scene an American man is executed by North Korean soldiers, although no detail of the execution is shown. Later on the resistance manage to rescue a woman who is similarly being threatened with execution.
The film also contains a single use of strong language ('f**k'), some moderate bad language (eg 'bitch', 'prick'), and some mild bad language (eg 'shit', asshole'). There is also a use of the 'middle finger' gesture and a use of 'Mr Big Ass Mother F Bomb' in reference to an explosive device.
At one point the resistance are seen hunting a deer for food. However, the shooting is not shown on screen and no animal was harmed in the making of the film.
No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
