REC is a subtitled Spanish language horror film in which a group of people become trapped in an apartment block and exposed to a virus which turns infected humans into rabidly violent killers. The film was classified '18' for strong bloody violence and sustained terror. Although the hand-held camera does not focus on the detail of killings, it lingers on gory images of graphic, bloody wounds of the dead and dying. The film's sense of immediacy and realism creates a strong sense of genuine threat which results in a terrifying and disturbing film and an intense viewing experience. The BBFC considered that strong violence and gore combined with sustained threat and terror would confound expectations at any category below '18'.

REC also contains strong language.
