THE RAVEN is a murder mystery in which Edgar Allan Poe assists a detective who is trying to solve murders based on those described in Poe's fictional works. It was classified '15' for strong bloody violence and grisly images.

In one scene, a man is tied down to a slab, after which a sharpened pendulum is released, slicing into his stomach in gory fashion. In another scene, a police officer is attacked by a man wielding a knife, which cuts his throat, causing blood to briefly gush from the wound. There are also some grisly images showing victims' corpses and body parts. These include sight of a severed tongue, a dead woman with her throat cut, and a dead man whose lips have been stitched together and which are then unstitched to reveal an object that has been placed in his mouth. The level of detail and the emphasis on injuries and blood exceeds the terms of the BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12'. However, the scenes are permissible at '15' where the Guidelines state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'.

THE RAVEN also includes one use of strong language and a mild sex reference.
