THE PURGE is a horror thriller set in the future in which the US government sanctions a 12 hour period once a year in which all crimes, including murder, are allowed. The film focusses on a suburban family who are forced to defend themselves against a violent mob. It is rated 15 for strong language and bloody violence.

When the family fights the masked mob that has entered their home, there are some moments of strong bloody violence. These include a woman being shot, resulting in a blood splatter as she flies backwards, and sight of an axe landing in another man. There is also sight of a man being stabbed in the stomach, with a close shot of the knife being stabbed in and pulled out, with bloody detail. In one scene, a woman's face is bashed with a rifle butt and then slammed against a glass table, resulting in bloody injury.

The film contains four uses of strong language ('f**k' and motherf***er') and some milder bad language (eg 'swine', 'son of a bitch'). There is also some moderate threat and sex references.

No-one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video or DVD.
