PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE FORGOTTEN SANDS is a third-person platform action-adventure game for the XBox 360 and is the latest in the series of games featuring the 'Prince of Persia' character who now returns to find his kingdom overrun by all manner of evil and must fight to preserve his reign. The game was passed at '12' for moderate fantasy violence.

The gameplay is embedded within a clear fantasy setting in which the player encounters hordes of enemies represented by various types of creatures, none of which have a resemblance to realistic human characters. There is a frequency to the repetitive fighting action with bladed weapons used by the hero, but the fantastical context for these battles is firmly established and the violence, although quite intense, is also bloodless with weapon strikes resulting only in light flashes, smoke effects or the occasional red mist. The defeated creature enemies merely crumble away and then disappear very quickly from the environment. The boss battles, against larger and even more fantastical enemies, such as massive, lumbering statues, have a slightly greater impact, but these are entirely non-human adversaries and bloody or gory detail is once again absent. The fighting action is balanced by extensive puzzle-solving elements within the game and the moderate fantasy violence lies well within what is permitted by the Guidelines at '12A/12' which state that 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail'.
