PORAALI is a Tamil drama about two men who arrive in Chennai looking to start new lives for themselves, leaving behind their murky past. The film was classified '12A' for some moderate violence and infrequent gory images.

There are a number of scenes in the film in which rival characters do battle. These often involve blows with fists and feet but there is also occasional use of weapons such as knives or sticks. These scenes contain relatively little in the way of injury detail or bloodshed, with much of the violence being implied rather than explicitly depicted. The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail'. The Guidelines go on to state that 'occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context' and there are two isolated scenes involving gory moments. One shows an injured man being carried to safety as he bleeds profusely from a head wound and the other shows a dead woman lying on the ground with her throat cut. Both images are brief and are important parts of the on-going narrative and so are fully justified by the context in which they appear.
