PIRANHA 3DD is a horror sequel, filmed in 3D, in which a horde of killer fish bring terror to a water park. The film was classified '18' for strong gory horror and sexualised nudity.
The film contains a number of scenes in which people are attacked by piranha fish. These scenes build up to a sustained sequence in which the ravenous fish overwhelm people in the water park and cause panic as they attempt to flee to safety. We see the piranha chew flesh from people's faces and limbs, with detailed sight of bloody injuries in the aftermath of these attacks. There is also a sequence that takes place outside the water park in which a character has a gruesome encounter with a piranha while he is having sex with a woman. This sequence is in keeping with the somewhat tongue-in-cheek approach to the conventions of the horror genre taken by the film as a whole. However, like the other piranha attacks, the focus placed on strong gory horror exceeds the terms of the BBFC's Guidelines at '15' which state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'.
The film also features a consistent focus on women's bodies, either naked or dressed in revealing swimwear. There is a clear intention to titillate and the strong sexualised nudity is more appropriately classified at '18'.
The film also contains strong language, crude sex references and brief soft drug use.
