PERCY JACKSON & THE LIGHTNING THIEF is a fantasy adventure about the son of Poseidon who must learn to embrace his power to discover who has stolen the mythical lightening bolt of the god Zeus.

Violence

Scenes of moderate fantasy violence include an extended training sequence in which two rival teams of demigods engage in combat involving swords, shields and fists. During the fight, heavy blows are exchanged with some brief sight of blood when the protagonist is cut, but he is then able to heal himself. Later scenes include an escape from a casino where the heroes fight adult security guards with sticks and chairs to knock them over, although there is no sight of injury and most blows are masked. Throughout there is a strong fantastical element to the fight sequences, which involve demigods, monsters, or other humanoid mythological characters.

Threat

Moderate threat occurs when the heroes are confronted by various mythological creatures and characters, including a winged fury/harpy, a Minotaur, a fire-breathing hydra, snake-haired Medusa, and Hades. The protagonist and his friends overcome these scenes through their resourcefulness.

Infrequent discriminatory language occurs, in which an unlikeable character refers to the protagonist's friend - who is on crutches - as a cripple.

Occasional mild sex references occur, as well as a scene of implied drug use in which the heroes mistakenly consume lotus flowers that have a drug-like effect and make them forget about their quest, although there is no suggestion the flowers contain any real world drugs and the scene shows clear negative effects.
