PALO ALTO is a US drama about a group of teenage high school students and their life of parties, drinking and tentative relationships.
There is a single use of very strong language when a drunk teenage boy tells a teenage girl "You can be a real c**t, you know that?". The boy is presented as obnoxious and the girl reacts by striking him with a bottle. The film also contains multiple uses of strong language ('f**k' and 'motherf**ker'), as well as various uses of milder terms, such as 'shit', 'bitch', 'asshole' and 'jerk'.
There is a scene of implied fellatio, as well as a scene of implied sexual intercourse. There is brief sight, on a television screen, of a woman removing her top to expose her breasts. There are strong verbal sex references, including to oral sex and pornography.
Joint smoking, including a scene in which a father shares one with his son. However, drug use is shown to lead to irresponsible behaviour. There are also scenes showing teenagers drinking alcohol and smoking.
Other issues include some violence as a teen boy is struck over the head with a bottle and left bloodied. The same teen is also seen to carry a large kitchen knife but does not use it.
Teen boys are shown to play with fireworks, attaching them to the back of skateboards, or hit at bullets with hammers.
There are also some references to suicide as friends discuss an old classmate who killed himself.
