PALIO is an Italian documentary about the oldest horse race in the world, held each year in the city of Siena.

Violence

Moderate violence includes replayed footage of a losing jockey being kicked and beaten by a group of spectators, but without injury detail. Race footage includes sight of jockeys and horses falling, and jockeys hitting other riders and their horses with their riding crops, but it is clear that in general the horses are treated with care and respect.

Injury detail

A horse is seen with several spots of blood on its rump, a jockey is seen with his leg flopping down at an odd angle following a heavy slam against the side barriers, and a man has some minor bloody grazes on his arm.

Sex

A jockey is encouraged to engage in more 'screwing' prior to his race.

The film also contains mild bad language ('shit', 'bastard', 'piss', 'screw') and an undetailed drug reference.
