NORTHERN SOUL is a British drama, set in the 1970s, about a couple of young men from the north of England whose lives are changed when they discover American soul music.

Language

Over one hundred uses of strong language ('f**k'), often aggressive and sometimes in a sexual context, as well as various uses of milder bad language. The word 'queer' is employed as a discriminatory term, and there is regular use of rude hand gestures.

Drugs

The protagonists take amphetamine pills. There are also a couple of brief shots of people injecting themselves. Although the pleasures of drug taking are indicated, so are the aversive aspects, and the film as a whole does not promote or encourage drug use.

Sex

There is a scene in which a young couple have sex in a car. It features some brief breast nudity.

The film also contains moderate sex references and moderate violence.
