MUSEUM HOURS is a drama set in and around the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, in which a woman forms a relationship with a museum guard. It is rated 12A for infrequent moderate sex references and natural nudity.
Moderate sex references occur in a sequence in which the guard draws an analogy between 'soft porn' and some of the paintings in the museum collection, and how people can view such images in a museum without shame. To illustrate his point the camera then focuses on a painting in which a man squeezes the exposed breast of a woman. The scene also includes a passing reference to 'Internet porn'. Many other paintings in the museum also feature female breast nudity, but there is little or no sexual context. In another scene, a picture of a topless female model is seen pinned to the wall of a Viennese bar.
Natural nudity is also briefly seen when patrons of the museum are shown wandering about naked.
MUSEUM HOURS includes a montage of paintings depicting women holding severed male heads (Judith and Holofernes, and Salome and St John the Baptist). The images, however, are not particularly grisly.
Very mild language in the film includes the terms 'god' and 'ass'.
No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
