MOULIN ROUGE is a 2001 musical drama about a young English writer who moves to Paris in 1899 and falls in love with a showgirl at the Moulin Rouge club.
- Language
There is a single use of the word 'whore', directed towards a woman.
- Sex
There are a number of moderate visual and verbal references to sex and prostitution, including the line "She sold her love to men" and sight of prostitutes lining a street in Monmartre, which is described as a 'village of sin'. In one scene a woman grabs a man's crotch and then drags the man to her bed, referring to him as 'Big Boy'. However, no sexual activity is shown.
- Violence
In one sequence a man is rejected by a woman and then attempts to force himself on her, ripping down her dress and pushing her onto a bed. However, the man is knocked unconscious before the assault can go any further and no sexual violence is shown.
There is a scene in which a woman who is unwell coughs up some blood. There is also a scene in which a group of men drink absinthe, experiencing a hallucinatory vision of the 'Green Fairy'.
